چکیده

Computational grids have the potential for solving large-scale scientific problems using heterogeneous and geographically distributed resources. However, a number of the major technical hurdles must overcome before this potential can be realized. One problem that is critical to effective utilization of computational grids and gives a certain Quality of Service (QoS) for grid users is the efficient co-allocation of jobs. Due to the lack of centralized control and the dynamic nature of resource availability, any successful co-allocation mechanism should be highly distributed and robust to the changes in the Grid environment. Moreover, it is desirable to have a co-allocation mechanism that does not rely on the availability of coherent global information. This work addresses those problems by describing and evaluating two resources co-allocation Strategies. The proposed Strategies have been verified through an extension of GridSim simulation toolkit and the simulation results confirm that our Strategies allow us to achieve the most of our goals.

Harnessing the Capacity of Computational Grids for High Energy Physics

By harnessing available computing resources on the network, computational grids can deliver large amounts of computing capacity to the high energy physics (HEP) community. Supporting HEP applications, which typically make heavy memory and I/O demands, requires careful co-allocation of network, storage, and computing resources. The grid manager must ensure that applications have the necessary re...

Agents' Bidding Strategies in a Combinatorial Auction Controlled Grid Environment

We present an agent-based simulation environment for resource allocation in a distributed computer system that employs a combinatorial task scheduler. Our environment enables the simulation of a mechanism for the simultaneous allocation of resources like CPU time (CPU), communication bandwidth (NET), volatile (MEM) and non-volatile memory (DSK) in the distributed computer system. In contrast to...

Analyzing Market-Based Resource Allocation Strategies for the Computational Grid

In this paper, we investigate G-commerce — computational economies for controlling resource allocation in Computational Grid settings. We define hypothetical resource consumers (representing users and Grid-aware applications) and resource producers (representing resource owners who “sell” their resources to the Grid). We then measure the efficiency of resource allocation under two different mar...

An Advance Reservation-Based Co-allocation Algorithm for Distributed Computers and Network Bandwidth on QoS-Guaranteed Grids

Co-allocation of performance-guaranteed computing and network resources provided by several administrative domains is one of the key issues for constructing a QoS-guaranteed Grid. We propose an advance reservation-based co-allocation algorithm for both computing and network resources on a QoSguaranteed Grid, modeled as an integer programming (IP) problem. The goal of our algorithm is to create ...
